A small engine mechanic inspects and tests motors and engines to diagnose and isolate faults. They use hand tools and equipment to adjust, repair or replace parts.

A typical day for a small engine mechanic might include inspecting and testing engines and motors to identify problems; disassembling and inspecting engine components; and replacing or repairing worn or damaged parts. They might also adjust engine timing and fuel mixture, and perform other tune-ups.
